The Importance of Mentorship in and out of the Rehearsal Environment

What are those specific elements that create a great mentor? If you have ever wondered about how to connect people, increase knowledge, and build skills for future goals, then this mentorship class is for you.
As someone who has mentored many stars of today’s choral scene, André discusses key questions, like: Why is mentorship important? What are the steps to mentor others? What are the benefits of becoming a mentor? What are some of the mistakes people make when trying to become a mentor?
Andre J. Thomas is a composer, arranger, author with extensive international conducting credits with choirs in the North and South America, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Africa. He is soon-to-be vice-president of ACDA and currently holds the position of Professor Emeritus at the Florida State University, visiting professor of Choral Conducting, and interim conductor of the Yale Camerata. Andre has been recognized by various musical organizations. The African Diaspora Sacred Music has honored André as a Living Legend, Chorus America has presented him with the Distinguished Service Award, ACDA has awarded him its highest honour, The Robert Shaw Award and in 2017 the NCCO has presented André with its Lifetime Achievement Award. In January 2019 he was inducted into the Florida Music Educator’s Hall of Fame.
