Dion Ritten began his musical education at the Maastricht Conservatory. At the same conservatory he studied choral conducting; he pursued this study at the State University for Music Rhineland Grenzland in Aachen (Germany). He studied orchestral conducting with Prof. Louis Weemaels, known former director of the National Orchestra of Belgium.
Dion Ritten is currently the director of Weerter mixed choir Vivace, Royal Choir Nijmeegs Male Choir, Chamber Choir of Limburg, Royal Roermond Singing and Music Association, Chamber Choir Cantate Venlo and Male Choir Beeker Liedertafel.
Dion is the founder and artistic director of the biennial Cantarode International Choir Festival and Competition in Kerkrade, which took place for the first time in 2014 and is one of the most prestigious choir festivals in Europe. He is a nationally and internationally coveted and popular juror at competitions and workshops. (Festivals Europe, Choralies France and World Symposium).
Dion regularly takes part in various international symposia and workshops in the field of choral singing, especially in Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, the USA and Japan, where he also sings with his choirs.
He has won national and international awards with various choirs; he won the Dutch Choir Festival and was among the winners of the renowned International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf.
Dion Ritten is an active member of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), the American Choral Directors Organization (ACDA) and the Association of European Choirs Europa Cantat.
