The Diversity of Excellence in Children’s Choirs
Nothing is more compelling, nothing touches the heart more than an excellent children’s choir. But excellence in children comes in many forms. Is it more important for a choir to be able to sing complex scores and sight-read perfectly? Or, does excellence lie in their power to communicate stories and beliefs with passion and commitment, to touch hearts and move minds?
This class will explore how children are capable of achieving different, but equally valid forms of choral excellence.
Lyn Williams’s career is responsible for completely transforming the choral landscape in Australia. She is the founder and artistic director of the world-renowned Gondwana Choirs, a national choral organization in Australia that puts the vocal power of young voices at the center of an impressive and wide-reaching artistic program.
Lyn’s dedication and contribution has been acknowledged through many national awards, such as the Art Music Awards’ Excellence by an Individual, Australia Council for the Arts’ Don Banks Music Award, as well as the Medal of the Order of Australia (2004), and Member of the Order of Australia (2019). As a composer, Lyn won the 2009 APRA-Australian Music Centre Vocal/Choral Work of the Year for her work A Flock of Stars.
