Authenticity & Flux
How do you and your choir anchor yourselves during a crisis and beyond? What will you take into the new century and the post-pandemic world? What will you change as you try to stay true to your authenticity?
This session will be a chance to look at your choir before, during, and after the pandemic, while at the same time discuss the day-to-day operations or productions of a professional choir, the collaborations, the concerts, the human resources, marketing and management.
Michael Zaugg is the Managing and Artistic Director of Pro Coro Canada and the Program Director of CHORAL ART at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, for which Pro Coro Canada received the Award for Outstanding Innovation in 2020. In 2018, Michael was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Music (Hon DMus) by Scotland’s King’s College, and in 2020 received an award from the Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund, recognizing his work as choral leader.
Active as a guest conductor, Michael has worked with various groups, including the Vancouver Chamber Choir, National Youth Choir of Canada, and the BBC Singers. As chorus master of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, he successfully prepared groups of up to 1500 singers.
Michael completed the post-graduate program for Professional Choir Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, and holds degrees in voice, conducting, and music education from the University in Basel.
