One of the most awe-inspiring choral festivals of the world is coming to Berlin
Launched in 2016, The UK Choir Festival has welcomed over 5000 attendees from over 200 choirs since its conception.
The UK Choir Festival gives individual participants and choirs the opportunity to be taught by some of the best workshop leaders in the UK, in a supportive, informative, collaborative, non-competitive and inspiring setting. It involves practical and method teaching, and everyone is involved as we work on vocal technique, performance, stage craft, blend and balance, language, and work on new styles and genres of singing.
Choirs love being part of this exciting and dynamic festival, where learning and making great music is at its heart.

The festival is designed for individual participants and choirs of all abilities, ages and style, no matter whether you are a local community choir, a cappella choir, school or university choir, gospel choir, choral society or barbershop choir. If you sing….. you’re welcome!

What do we sing?
Participants will have the opportunity of taking part in workshops, performance masterclasses, a local concert and perform own repertoire at the world-famous Berlin Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal.
There will also be a number of joint festival songs to perform (to be announced shortly – music will be sent out in advance).
Who will lead the project?
This project is created and led by Russell Scott.
The workshop leaders of the Berlin edition of the UK Choir Festival are Craig Lees, Emily Dickens, Mat Wright & Volney Morgan.
Where will rehearsals and concert take place?
The workshops will take place in the Otto Braun Saal of the Staatsbibliothek Berlin.
Rehearsals and the concert on May 10, 2025 are scheduled at the Matthäuskirche (Kulturforum).
The final rehearsal and the concert on May 11, 2025 will take place in the beautiful Kammermusiksaal of the Philharmonie Berlin.
What costs are involved?
The participation fee for the festival is EUR 98.00 per participant.
Non-performing accompanying persons are offered a reduced participation fee of EUR 55.00 per person that includes access to all workshops, rehearsals and a concert tickets in the best category.
Accompanying persons, friends and fans that wish to attend only the concert can purchase concert tickets in our ticket website.

The culmination of a fantastic weekend concludes at the world famous Berlin Philharmonie where each choir will perform solo set. In the second half of the concert, the joint pieces will also be performed. This concert will be open to the general public and listed on the Berlin Philharmonie programme of events.
Workshop Leaders
Craig Lees
Craig is a contemporary vocal coach, choral leader and arranger. He is a Principal Lecturer on the Popular Music Degree at Leeds Conservatoire, where he founded their Contemporary Pop Choir in 2014. In 2017, he was the Musical Director behind Leeds Contemporary Singers, a nine-piece vocal harmony group that rose to fame as the winners of BBC One’s Pitch Battle television show.
As a vocal coach Craig has a thriving private practice, with clients appearing on The Voice UK, The X factor and many more. In 2018 he was also a regional coach for ITV1’s “Change Your Tune”. As a choral director and workshop leader Craig has presented internationally on the topic of choral pedagogy and has delivered choral workshops throughout the UK and abroad.
Together with his choirs Craig has performed at numerous prestigious venues and events, including The Royal Festival Hall (London, 2016), MIPCOM (Cannes, 2017) and Children In Need (Wembley Arena, 2018).
Emily Dickens
An internationally established soprano and choir director, Emily Dickens read music at Trinity College, Cambridge where she was a choral scholar, before joining the critically acclaimed British vocal ensemble VOCES8 as their soprano for 8 years.
Formerly the Choral Conducting Fellow at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Emily is currently Creative Director and Chorus Director of Gabrieli Roar, Associate Choral Director at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, a regular director of the London Symphony Orchestra Choirs, and a Chorus Master for London Voices with whom she has conducted for film and video game.
She was twice Chorus Master for the innovative collaboration between Holland Baroque and the London Community Gospel Choir.
Emily performs as a soloist and with the Monteverdi Choir, Gabrieli, Tenebrae, BBC Singers, OAE and is regularly featured on film soundtracks.
Mat Wright
Mat is Artistic Director and founder of Barnsley Youth Choir, a charity that has 650 members aged 0 – 24 years old in an area of significant deprivation. The choir has been successful in international competitions winning 8 categories and 3 Grand Prix in major competitions such as the World Choir Games and European Choir Games, and was been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2017.
Mat has worked as clinician, workshop leader and guest conductor, including work in Spain, France, South Korea, Russia, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Germany, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Ireland as well as engagements throughout the UK. He was the Artistic Director for the recent Hull International Competition featuring over 1000 singers from across the world.
He was appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the Queen in 2020 for his services to young people and music.
Volney Morgan
Volney Morgan is acclaimed Singer, Songwriter, Vocal Producer, and Artist who has won multiple awards including a MOBO, 3 Premier Gospel awards, and a UK Entertainment Award. His high energy, passion, and innovative nature have made him one of the UK’s trailblazers in the music industry.
His captivating live performances with his group Volney Morgan & New-Ye, coupled with his eclec9c sound, have been seen all over the world, including the BBC Proms, where they shared the stage with Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child and other legendary UK gospel choirs.
Volney Morgan and his group have had the opportunity to travel across the USA, Canada, and Europe. During their travels, they have shared the stage with many well-known artists, including Kirk Franklin, Stormzy, Tye Tribbe, Cece Winans, and Travis Greene, among others. In addition to performing, they have worked with various organizations and events, such as Universal Studios, Big Church Festival, The Sister Act Live Theatre Show, and the BBC.
