CHORALSPACE Winter Festival 2022
December 8 – 18, 2022 | Berlin, Germany
The CHORALSPACE Winter Festival is an innovative event that enables, supports, and showcases international choral friendship. The event presents concerts created by local and international choirs in some of Berlin’s most beautiful concert venues.
An innovative festival
inviting choirs from around the world
to join Berlin’s Colorful Choral community
December is a special month for Berlin’s choral community. Hundreds of concerts are celebrated and the variety of the repertoire is just exceptional. We welcome choirs from around the world to join Berlin’s colorful choral community and create unforgettable moments of music celebration.
How does my participation look like?
CHORALSPACE offers a residence program – individually scheduled to meet the expectations of the travelling ensembles and showcase their singing tradition. It is created for those international choirs visiting Berlin during these special weeks who are interested in partnering with another international, or local choir to rehearse together and perform a concert in the frame of the festival. Additionally, we will be happy to organize a short performance on one of the beautiful Christmas markets in Berlin or other interactive places, where you will be able to enjoy the local Berlin vibe.
Your journey to the Winter Festival
starts already before your trip to Berlin!
Working closely together with our artistic director, Michael Hayden, we will choose a partner choir for your choir and link you and your partner choir up already before the festival. Therefore, we invented a structure of meetings which allows all participants to work together on the artistic program and get to know each other.
Meet Michael Hayden,
the artistic director of the CHORALSPACE Winter Festival 2022
Michael Hayden has worked from coast-to-coast in the United States and around the world as Conductor, Professor, and Coach. His work has inspired choirs, singers and teachers to be the best they can be, musically, professionally and personally.
With his great ability to instruct, coach and develop a choir’s vocal and musical skills, Michael will accompany the choirs through the process of online meetings, setting up the program and will bring the partnering choirs together through bounding activities during the joint rehearsal.
“As artistic advisor of the CHORALSPACE 2021 Winter Festival, I had the pleasure of coaching choirs and conductors in their final rehearsals for their festival performances. Working with sound, artistry and bonding activities, the choirs enthusiastically embraced the festival experience creating brilliant performances and long-lasting friendships.” Michael Hayden
The collaborative process
Conductors Talk (Michael Hayden, conductors of the partnering choirs)
Get to know the other conductors and talk about ideas for the joint repertoire.
Meet your Cluster (Michael Hayden, conductors, and singers of the partnering choirs)
Present yourself and your group’s special focus to the other choirs, discuss the agreed joint pieces and share insights about your cultural and musical traditions.
Help each other
Record yourself to support the other choirs for those pieces you have suggested to perform all together.
Joint rehearsal in Berlin
Arriving in Berlin, you will first enjoy a rehearsal of your joint repertoire.
We love giving you the opportunity to find the perfect timing for your participation in our Winter Festival. Festival concerts will take place on the weekend from December 9 to 11 and December 16 to 18.
